Konrad-Otto Zimmermann

Konrad Otto-Zimmermann is the Secretary General of ICLEI- Local Governments for Sustainability and Director of the ICLEI World Secretariat. He built up and led ICLEI's European Secretariat in Freiburg, Germany from 1992-2001. From 1987-1992 he was head of the Environmental Planning Division of the City of Freiburg, Germany. From 1985-1987 he was the Project Leader of the regional "Environmental Project Black Forest". From 1977-1985, he headed the Urban Environmental Planning Section of the Federal Environmental Agency in Berlin, Germany. Mr. Otto-Zimmerman holds two Masters degrees: in Public Administration (Speyer, Germany) and in Urban Planning (Hanover, Germany). He is the creator of the idea of "eco-link" for urban transport (Umweltverbund) and Environmental Budgeting (ecoBUDGET). He is a member of the International Advisory Boards of the UNEP International Environmental Technology Centre (IETC), Osaka, as well as the author, editor, or co-editor of 11 books and numerous articles on environmental planning and management. He initiated and acted as the Scientific Director of congresses on sustainable cities, Local Agenda 21, local environmental management, environmental impact assessment, and eco-procurement. |
