Pedro Ballesteros Torres

Pedro BALLESTEROS TORRES is principal administrator at Directorate General for Energy of the European Commission. Among his duties, he is in charge of:
• the launch and overall management of the Covenant of Mayors, the EU initiative to support the cities leading the fight against climate change, involving over 1700 cities in the continent
• the Sustainable Energy Europe Campaign, the European Commission programme for communication on clean energy, with the participation of more than 4000 partners
• the co-ordination at DG TREN of the Intelligent Energy Europe programme, with a budget of 727 million € and the initiative Islands for Sustainable Energy. 
He is Engineer in Food Industry at the Universidad Polit¨¦cnica of Madrid, and has a MBA in Energy Business. From 1984 to 1994 worked as consultant in energy and environment topics for European and United Nations institutions. He's working at the European Commission since 1995, as principal administrator since 2002. Before assuming the present responsibilities he was responsible, among other things, of the OPET Network for energy technologies, several regional plans for energy efficiency and the dissemination of the energy research programme at the European Union.
